SujanSelven – Greens candidate for Prospect
The Greens NSW have selected young Tamil Australian, SujanSelven, as their candidate for the seat of Prospect in the upcoming NSW State Election. Mr Selven, a small business owner from Wentworthville has been a Greens supporter for years and is looking forward to running a strong grassroots campaign in the new seat of Prospect.
Mr Selven said:
“Greens politicians have a long history of standing up for human rights and issues that the Tamil community care about. Senator Lee Rhiannon and Senator Christine Milne regularly highlight human rights abuses in Sri Lanka and the inhumane treatmentof asylum seekers and refugees by the Federal Government. In the NSW Parliament, Greens MP David Shoebridge is a strong advocate of Tamil issues.
“Prospect has the highest number of Tamil speakers of any electorate in New South Wales. I look forward to working with the community to highlight that there is a real alternative to Labor and the Liberals.
“As a small business owner from Wenthworthville, I know that our future depends on better education and training for our young people as well as a clean energy future to generate jobs, especially in Western Sydney. I am running for the Greens because I believe the Liberal and Labor parties have taken Western Sydney for granted for too long.
“I believe multiculturalism is something to be celebrated and there needs to be more diversity in our parliament. I came to Australia as a refugee in 2000 and am passionate about human rights.I am an advocate for refugees and asylum seekers and regularly visit Villawood Detention Centre.. I believe politicians at all levels need to stand up for human rights.
“Anti-corruption is something that I am passionate about and I am proud to be a part of a party that doesn’t accept donations from corporations. NSW needs to see an end to the corruption that has taken over this state, with some Labor and Liberal MPs appearing before the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
“I have a vision for the electorate of Prospectwhich includes world class public transport for Western Sydney, environmental protection, planning decisions returned to the community as well as ensuring our public services such as Fairfield Hospital and our public schools and TAFES are well funded
“I’m standing for a cleaner, fairer, better Prospect”, Mr Selven concluded.
